As Dashing Films continues its cast rollout ahead of the release of Chess on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, actor Samie Onot shares insight into his character and the emotional weight behind his storyline.
Samie plays the role of Jordan, a struggling photographer whose life takes a difficult turn when his girlfriend is diagnosed with kidney failure and urgently needs surgery. According to him, the character is pushed into a situation where he must make a morally complex decision in order to save someone he loves. This places Jordan at the centre of one of the more emotionally charged storylines in the series.
Why He Joined Chess
Speaking on what drew him to the project, Samie explains that he was interested in how the story reflects real societal situations. He notes that Chess explores how circumstances can force people into actions they would not normally consider, especially when love and responsibility are involved. For him, that realism made the story compelling.
Production Challenges
On the challenges he faced during production, he points to the intimate scenes as the most demanding. He mentions this with some humour, but it reflects the level of vulnerability required in portraying certain aspects of the character's journey.
The Message of Chess
When discussing the message of the series, Samie highlights its focus on the complexity of human relationships. He explains that the story presents situations that encourage the audience to think more deeply about the choices people make and the consequences that follow, especially in moments of pressure.
Looking ahead to the premiere, he says viewers should expect a mix of strong emotions and visual appeal. He describes the experience as one that combines drama, romance, and cinematic storytelling, all coming together to keep audiences engaged.
Chess premieres Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 on the Dashing Films YouTube channel, with watch parties in Lagos, Anambra, and Imo State.
